The best prospects for American exporters in Turkey include wind mills, boilers, SCADA systems for electricity distribution lines, small hydro power plants, geothermal and solar applications, combined cycle power plants, hydrogen generation pilot facilities, and services of supply and installation of power transformers.

Turkey`s surrounding countries hold almost seventy-three percent of the world`s oil reserves and seventy-two percent of the world`s gas reserves. Turkey has long-term NG procurement contracts with Russia, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Nigeria, Iran, and Turkmenistan. The Turkish Pipeline Corporation announced the transfer of some of these contracts to the private sector. Hence, the need for equipment, technology, and know-how in these areas.

Turkey is an important market for American exporters of medical equipment. Angio-cath facilities, optical equipment, OR/ER systems, instruments for chemical analysis, and equipment for electronic diagnostic, radiology, vaccines, and pathology are in high demand.

In the fast-growing building sector, the imports in high demand include prefabricated wall panels, windows, sanitary wares, paint, wall paper, insulation, plumbing fixtures, roofing and siding materials, earthquake resistant materials, radiators, doors, flooring, glass, and aluminum building materials.

Franchising opportunities for U.S. businesses include those in the areas of fast food restaurants, language training, maintenance services, sports facilities, hotels, healthcare services, casual dining concepts, computer training, and real estate services.

In the area of defense equipment and services Turkish projects need air defense missile systems and components, naval patrol craft, police helicopters, weapons platforms, coastal surveillance radar systems.

Doing business in Turkey might be easier for U.S. exporters if they hire a local agent or representative, due to the bureaucratic requirements.
