New Opportunities for U.S. Companies in China

China has always offered great opportunities for American companies. U.S. exports in this country are constantly growing. For instance, over the past few years, U.S. exports increased 20%. According to the Census Bureau, in 2007 American goods exported to China increased 5.7%. This was considered to be the fastest growing foreign market for American products.

The main export sectors in China are: telecommunications, financial services, chemicals, medical equipment, construction, and machinery. These are the key sectors which could almost guarantee to an American exporter success on the Chinese market. U.S. companies become more and more interested in finding new ideas and developing environmentally friendly technologies that can help improve the quality of life.

The “green” or “clean” energy is starting to gain ground on the traditional ways of energy use. The Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration is currently helping U.S. companies in finding good prospects and new markets in this sector, where they can
export the new products. And what better trade partner than China which has come up with a strategic plan for energy independence? The plan implies converting its coal reserves, through a burning process, into liquefied fuels. The necessary technology will be provided by U.S. For this, a special facility must be built and the chosen location is Inner Mongolia.

Last month, a $250 million agreement between U.S. and China has been proposed in order to cover the expenses and resolve this important environmental problem.
“This contract is another example of how U.S.–China trade is working to promote mutual economic growth while utilizing innovative U.S. technologies to address environmental and industrial concerns associated with fossil fuels. As exemplified by our work with CCTI Clean Coal Technologies Inc.), the U.S. [Foreign and] Commercial Service continues to support expanded sales of American products and services to China—our third-largest export market,” said William Zarit, deputy assistant secretary for international operations with the U.S. Foreign and Commercial Service (USFCS).
