Egypt is one of U.S.’s most important bilateral trading partners. U.S. imports in this country a significant quantity of products from the machinery and agricultural sector and it is also one of the largest investors in Egypt. The biggest U.S. investments are made in sectors such as gas and oil, automobile production, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods.

As major infrastructure projects are constantly being made, American companies will find attractive opportunities here. Most projects include building airports or other infrastructure, or sectors like telecommunications and TV broadcasting. The power generation and transmission, and the petroleum are also sector of interest to the U.S. firms. Tourism is an important issue in Egypt and building the right infrastructure is crucial. This brings on the table great opportunities for U.S. companies that export building equipment and systems.

For instance, exports from U.S. to Egypt in the telecommunications sector has grown with about $360 millions in the past 3 years. This sector is extremely developed and experts forecast that, in the following three years, it will grow considerably. Plus, the call center business is at its climax and U.S. companies may provide the new technologies and the equipment needed.

The oil and gas field machinery and services (OGM) is a sector of maximum significance as in 2008, U.S. firms have exported $425 millions of the total imports of $1,800 millions. In this sector, the best prospects for American companies are to export: liquefied national gas related technology, tubes and rubbing accessories, compressed natural gas and natural gas vehicles technology and peripherals, drilling rigs and related equipment and accessories, and hi-tech test and measuring equipment.

The automotive parts and service equipment (APS) also offers good prospects for the American exporters, such as: spare parts, comfort and entertainment accessories, modern garage equipments, tires and wheels, and service equipment. At the end of last year, U.S. exported APS products in Egypt at the value of $240 millions.

The electricity and power generation (ELP) sector should also be taken into consideration because from the total imports in Egypt of $1,000 millions, $350 millions are imports from the U.S., consisting of: power transmission lines and power transformers, turbine generator units with associated equipments, and vibration dampers.

All in all, Egypt is a country that offers great opportunities for U.S. exporters and investors in almost in every sector.
